On September 13, 2012, Dr. Ralph Madeb, chief of surgery at Newark-Wayne Community Hospital, and Dr. John Valvo, medical director of robotics at Rochester General Health System, teamed up to perform Newark-Wayne’s first robotic surgery using the hospital’s da Vinci Surgical System. The robotic system was used to perform urological surgery on a patient named John Boden.

The da Vinci Surgical System has the benefit of being highly precise while remaining minimally invasive. The addition of computer-enhanced technology to the surgeon’s already-impressive skill set produces a higher quality of surgery than was previously attainable using traditional surgical methods.
